Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province

Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province is a department of the Provincial Government. It is under the leadership of the United Front Work Department of the Provincial Party Committee and at the departmental level.

 

Ethnic and Religious Affairs Committee of Zhejiang Province implements the guidelines and policies on ethnic and religious affairs made by the Party Central Committee and the decisions and deployments made by the Provincial Party Committee, and adheres to and strengthens the Party's centralized and unified leadership over ethnic and religious affairs in the process of performing its duties. Its main responsibilities include:

 

(1) Implementing the guidelines, policies and relevant laws and regulations of the Party Central Committee and the State Council on ethnic and religious work, organizing and carrying out investigations and studies of major issues related to ethnic and religious theories, policies and work, and putting forward relevant policies and recommendations.

 

(2) Drafting local laws and regulations on ethnic and religious issues in the province, and formulating regulatory documents and other relevant policies and regulations; organizing and guiding the publicity and education of ethnic and religious policies and laws and regulations, and supervising and inspecting the implementation of ethnic and religious policies, laws and regulations; guiding the handling of emergencies in ethnic and religious respects and issues affecting social stability in accordance with the law.

 

(3) Formulating, and coordinating and organizing the implementation of special plans for causes for ethnic minorities, and supervising and inspecting the implementation of these plans; participating in, coordinating, and promoting work related to scientific and technological development, counterpart assistance, and economic and technological cooperation in ethnic areas.

 

(4) Working with relevant departments to manage special funds for ethnic minorities and do a good job in poverty alleviation for ethnic minorities; assist relevant departments in accelerating the development of various social undertakings such as economy, culture, education, etc. in ethnic minorities and ethnic regions.

 

(5) Guiding the development of urban ethnic work, and coordinating various work related to service for and management of floating population from ethnic minorities.

 

(6) Protecting the lawful rights and interests of citizens of ethnic minorities in the province in accordance with the law, coordinating the handling of major issues in ethnic relations, and organizing and undertaking commendation activities for ethnic unity and progress; assisting relevant departments in doing a good job in training, selecting, educating and using leaders of ethnic minorities and work related to talents of ethnic minorities.

 

(7) Managing religious affairs in accordance with the law, protecting citizens' freedom of religious belief and normal religious activities in accordance with the law, and safeguarding the legitimate rights and interests of religious circles; being responsible for the administrative supervision of folk beliefs.

 

(8) Guiding religious groups to carry out activities in accordance with laws and regulations, guiding all religions to adhere to the Chinese nature, supporting religious groups to strengthen their own cultivation, and promoting religious groups to carry out self-education on patriotism, socialism, and support for the unity of the motherland and ethnic unity in the religious circles; instructing all provincial religious organizations to run religious schools to help religious organizations train and educate religious clerics; handling affairs of religious groups that need to be resolved and coordinated by the government.

 

(9) Instructing the ethnic and religious affairs departments at the municipal and county levels to perform management duties in accordance with the law and handle major ethnic and religious affairs; preventing illegal activities conducted in the name of religions, and resisting infiltration activities conducted in the name of religions from abroad; assisting in anti-terrorism and anti-cult work.

 

(10) Being responsible for the centralized management of foreign exchanges in ethnic and religious affairs, and guiding the religious circles to carry out friendly exchanges with foreign countries, and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.

 

(11) Organizing and carrying out the education and training of ethnic and religious officials, official of ethnic minorities, and religious staff.

 

(12) Completing other tasks assigned by the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial Government, and the United Front Work Department of the Provincial Party Committee.
