Hangzhou International School is the first school in Zhejiang Province to accept children of aliens or residents from Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. The school is located in Binjiang District by the Qiantang River and faces the Six Harmonious Pagoda across the river. Hangzhou Education Bureau and Hangzhou No.2 Higher School provide the school with school buildings and dormitories, while ISDA runs and administers the school. Hangzhou International School is the seventh international school run by ISDA.

The school, located in Hangzhou National High and New Technology Industrial Development Zone and backed up by Hangzhou No.2 Higher School, covers an area of 35 mu with a building space of over 10,000 square meters. The school has an enrollment capacity of 500 students and offers the 15-year basic education program from kindergarten to high school with the American curriculum standard approved by the US Ministry of Education. This year the school enrolled its first 25 students, whose parents, all working in Hangzhou, are from the US, Britain, India and other countries.

This international school has an excellent teaching staff. The American principal, Sam Cook, majored in education and history during his undergraduate years and has a master¡¯s degree. He taught in a school in the US for five years and served as the principal for three years. The other six teachers are from the US, Britain, New Zealand and Indonesia, most of whom have got master¡¯s degrees and have more than eight years of teaching experience.

The school offers courses in the training of thinking, math, language competence, reading, social study, science and health. This year the school starts to enroll pre-schoolers and first-to-sixth graders. Next year the school will accept junior high school and senior high school students.

The principal is quite optimistic about the future of the school and he says, ¡°Hangzhou has attracted many foreign investors and Nokia has set up a development center in Hangzhou. All of them are the potential supporters of Hangzhou International School.¡±
