Zhejiang Provincial Department of Health Reports the Epidemic Situation of Notifiable Infectious Diseases in May, 2008

From 0:00 am of May 1st to 12:00 pm of May 31st, 2008, there were reports on infectious disease cases from all the 90 counties (cities and districts) of the Province. A total of 18,977 cases of 18 types of Category A and B notifiable infectious diseases were reported, with a death toll of 20. No cases were reported of the plague, cholera, human infection with highly pathogenic avian influenza, SARS, poliomyelitis, epidemic encephalitis Ħ°BĦħ, anthracnose, diphtheria, and leptospirosis.

The top five diseases in May of 2008 were reported to be: pulmonary tuberculosis, hepatitis B, syphilis, gonorrhea, and measles, accounting for 86.74% of the total reported cases. It was also reported that the death toll from AIDS was 6, pulmonary tuberculosis 5, rabies 4, neonatal tetanus 2, measles 2, and that from hepatitis B was 1.
