Zhejiang Provincial Health Bureau Released the Legal Report on the Provincial Situation of Infectious Diseases in March 2008

There were reports on infectious disease cases in 90 counties (county-level cities and districts) from 0:00 a.m. March 1 to 24:00 p.m. March 31, totaling 16 infectious diseases specified by law both in Classes A and B and 19,050 cases, including 13 deaths. There were no reports on cases of plague, cholera, human infection of highly pathogenic avian influenza, SARS, polio, epidemic encephalitis B, dengue fever, anthracnose, diphtheria, leptospirosis and schistosomiasis.

In March 2008 the top five infectious diseases reported were tuberculosis, hepatitis B, syphilis, gonorrhea and measles, accounting for 89.67% of all the cases reported. The infectious diseases reported to have caused deaths were rabies (3), tuberculosis (3), AIDS (2), epidemic cerebrospinal meningitis (2), measles (1), bacillary dysentery (1) and syphilis (1).
