In 2009, the realization of the overall well-off of the disabled and the handicapped in our province came up to 68%, 14.5% higher than that of the national level. Information Office of the Provincial Government held a press conference to make public the current conditions and the realization of the overall well-off of the disabled and the handicapped in our province.

According to statistics, in 2009, per capita annual disposable income of every disabled and handicapped family in the cities and towns of Zhejiang province is 14909 Yuan, a rise of 7.5% compared with last year on inflation-adjusted basis. Per capita annual net income of every disabled and handicapped family in the rural areas is 7083 Yuan, a rise of 2% compared with last year on inflation-adjusted basis. The proportion of the disabled and the handicapped taking out basic social insurance increases in the same period. In 2009, 95.9% disabled and handicapped people have joined New Rural Cooperative Medical Insurance Program. The proportion of the disabled and the handicapped taking out basic social insurance increases 8.1%, compared with that of 2007. The basic medical insurance system has covered all the disabled and the handicapped in cities and towns, and the basic endowment insurance system has covered 95.2%.
