Shanghai-Hangzhou Maglev Project to Begin Construction in 2010

When releasing an action plan regarding construction of key projects for 2008-2012 period, the provincial government of Zhejiang announced that the construction of the much-discussed Shanghai-Hangzhou magnetic levitation train route will go ahead in 2010, along with specific ˇ°figuresˇ± like construction period and total investment.

The Shanghai-Hangzhou Maglev line of the Zhejiang section is expected to be completed by 2014 at a cost of 22 billion yuan, and from 2008 to 2012, 6.5 billion yuan of the cost should be allocated, the plan said. The provincial office supervising the Maglev project and all the municipal governments along the line should finish the preliminary work of assessment of land acquisition, site selection, as well as study of environmental impact this year.

The total length of this new Maglev train line between Shanghai and Hangzhou will be 199.434km. The inter-city line (including trigonum tie-line) is 164.577km, and Shanghai airport tie-line is 34.857km. The total length in Zhejiang province will be 103.553km, running through only two stops at Jiaxing and Hangzhou East.
