According to the plan, 500,000 square meters of economically rentable apartments will be built to solve the problem of the so-called two housing sandwich layers (referring to low and middle-income groups that are not entitled to economically affordable housing and cannot afford commercial residences either). Wang Guoping, member of the Standing Committee of Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of Hangzhou Municipal Party Committee, said, ˇ°Economically rentable apartments are for the two housing sandwich layers and 500,000 square meters is a basic figure.ˇ± From 2008 to 2010, Hangzhou will endeavor to solve the housing problem of 45,000 families with low income living in the main town. It plans to build 2,000,000 square meters of economically affordable apartments, 500,000 square meters of low-rent apartments and 1,200,000 square meters of fixed-priced commercial apartments for families relocated because of city development.
