As is learned from the meeting on constructing coastal protection forest held on Aug. 14 in Linhai, Zhejiang has built a coastal backbone forest strip over 100 kilometers long and over 50 meters wide within the last two years. Another 3,000 kilometers of high-standard coastal backbone forest strip will have been completed by the year of 2015.
There are three protective lines in the system of coastal protection forest in Zhejiang, which respectively consist of coastal backbone forest strips, protective forest network in plain agricultural areas, cities and towns as well as protective forest on mountain areas and hills. Presently three main tasks are being carried out. One of these is the construction of coastal backbone forest strips, which involves constructing 3000km high-standard coastal backbone forest strips, protecting and planting 1000-hectare redwood forest. The focus of it is on building Wentai and round-Hangzhou Bay backbone forest strips. The second is the integrative afforestation in the cities and countries. 4000 kilometers of green belt, 5000 hectares of farmland forest network and 2000 model villages are being constructed. The third is the reconstruction of low-efficiency forest, which adds up to 3 million mu. Being strongly supportive, the Central and Provincial government will respectively offer 30 million yuan of financial support.
