During his recent research tour in Taizhou, LU Zushan, governor of Zhejiang Province, stressed that efforts should be made to conquer whatever difficulties and build confidence to adjust and optimize industrial structure and to promote the transformation and upgrading of industrial economy in accordance with ¡°addressing both symptoms and root causes, achieving both stability and industrial transformation¡±, a guideline set by the provincial party committee and the provincial government

LU Zushan also pointed out that at present Zhejiang¡¯s economic development has entered a transition period and much work has to be done to adjust and optimize industrial structure, demand structure, element structure, and spatial layout, further deepen the reform and innovation, and create an institutional mechanism conducive to the switch in the mode of economic development. According to Mr. Lv, to achieve the successful switch, emphasis should be placed on the optimization and upgrading of industrial structure. Zhejiang should increase the proportion of the tertiary industry, develop information technology and industrialization, promote the integration of service industry and industrial production, and accelerate the creation of a modern industrial system with international competitiveness. On the one hand, Zhejiang should vigorously develop its preponderant pillar industries, such as high-tech industries, equipment manufacturing, and port area industry. On the other hand, Zhejiang should enhance the competitiveness of traditional industries.
