Towards the close of the first anniversary of the devastating May 12 Wenchuan earthquake in Sichuan Province, Zhejiang Provincial Earthquake Rescue Team (Zhejiang Provincial Comprehensive Rescue Team) was set up in Hangzhou yesterday.

The Provincial Earthquake Rescue Team is the major manpower to provide first aid in earthquakes and other sudden disasters or accidents at the first opportunity. The team is comprised of some 150 people, including seismologists, firemen and medical rescuers. It is aimed to protect people¡¯s lives and properties, and enhance the government¡¯s capability of guaranteeing public security and tackling contingencies.
