Typhoon In-Fa approaching Zhejiang, PFCH demands to prepare for the worst
Date:2021-07-23 11:01

In-Fa, the sixth typhoon of this year, is approaching the coast of Zhejiang. In order to win the battle against the typhoon, the Provincial Flood Control Headquarters (PFCH) held a conference on the afternoon of the 21st, requiring all local authorities and departments to make the best preparations for the worst situation.

According to the Provincial Meteorological Department, the intensity of In-Fa has turned from the typhoon level to the strong typhoon level at 11 am on the 21st. At 5 pm, its center is located on the Northwest Pacific Ocean about 720 kilometers southeast of Wenling, Zhejiang Province, with the maximum wind force reaching Level 14 (42 m/s). It is expected that it will move westward at a speed of about 10 kilometers per hour, with increasing intensity, which may reach Level 16 as a super typhoon.

Around the evening of the 23rd, In-Fa will move into the southeastern part of the East China Sea, and then turn to the northwest, gradually approaching the coast of northern Zhejiang and northern Fujian, and may land on the coasts of these areas from the night of the 24th to the day of the 25th. “At present, we cannot completely rule out its possibility of moving northward off the coast of Zhejiang," said PFCH. It demands all local authorities and departments to attach great importance to the preventive work and go all out to protect people's lives and property.

As In-Fa moves slowly with sufficient water vapor, it will bring a lot of rainfall along its course. In addition, the typhoon coincides with the astronomical tide around the 15th lunar calendar, which may be a great test for the seawall. In this regard, the water conservancy departments of our province intervened in advance and arranged pre-draining for many areas to lower the water level of the river network as soon as possible. What’s more, large and medium-sized reservoirs have also formulated a "one reservoir, one policy" plan to free up more storage capacity. Meanwhile, the province has strengthened inspections on more than 4,000 reservoirs and 18,000 mountain ponds. If necessary, they will keep a close eye on them 24 hours a day, so as to promptly handle hidden dangers.

As it happened to be in the summer vacation, there are a lot of tourists in mountainous areas and islands. In view of the small scale and weak safety facilities of farm restaurants, the province's agricultural and rural departments have sent more than 40,000 early warning messages to farm restaurants and the managing authorities and organized the transfer of business owners and tourists. At present, all passenger routes of Nanji and Beiji in Wenzhou have been suspended, 1,485 tourists on the island have been evacuated, and all 11 coastal hydraulic projects have been suspended. In addition, to prevent the risk of urban waterlogging, the Provincial Department of Construction has also set up a special team and urged Taizhou, Wenzhou, Zhoushan, Ningbo and other places to prepare sandbags and drainage facilities and ensure that rescue teams are on standby at any time.
